The power of color in cinema and the mind

Abstract

The present article is a study that systematically explores the role of color as an emotional, narrative, and cultural agent. Based on a review conducted using the PRISMA method, this study analyzes various articles, selecting 30 as the most relevant for addressing the interrelationship between color, psychology, culture, and cinema. The findings were organized into three main areas: color psychology (40%), color in film (33.33%), and the relationship between culture and color (26.67%). The studies demonstrate that colors provoke specific physiological and emotional responses, serve as a resource in the visual construction of narratives, and acquire different meanings depending on the sociocultural context. Additionally, seven methodological approaches were identified: film analysis, semiotic analysis, psychological analysis, color theory, cultural perspective, case studies, and genre comparison. The results reveal that using color as a multidisciplinary tool is essential not only to guide the viewer’s emotional experience but also to enhance emotional engagement and sensory investment.
