Abstract

Neuromuscular electrostimulation (NMES) as a technique used in electrotherapy reverts great importance in the strengthening of different muscle groups from the excitation of nerve endings or the muscle tissue itself, favoring its contraction during functional activities. Objective: To design methodological actions for the use of the NMES technique in the care of children with special educational needs with dysphagia. Methods: Non-experimental descriptive study, which includes nine school children with dysphagia, who attend the Specialized Education Center "Hogar de Nazareth" in Fe y Alegría and the Specialized Education Unit "Carlos Mora", located in District 8 of Education and Health in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, with the prior informed consent of their legal representatives. Results: The methodological actions to follow for the application of the NMES technique in these students are shown. Discussion: The researches reviewed agree on the importance of NMES in the care of dysphagia, but they do not coincide in the methodological actions to be taken into account for its development, favoring the diversity of criteria. Conclusions: They reflect the regularities found in the theory regarding the relevance and importance of the application of the NMES technique in the treatment of dysphagia, justified by the positive effects that promote a better quality of life for both the child and his group. family, the methodological procedure for the use of the NMES technique in children with Special Educational Needs with dysphagia.
