Abstract

The purpose of this work is to improve the learning of geographical location from a didactic strategy for the use of Google Earth in the eighth year students of Basic General Education of the Julio Enrique Moreno Municipal Educational Unit. The initial diagnosis showed that the students have difficulties in the skills necessary for localization. Teachers report not using digital tools in this regard. The use of Google Earth is part of the educational innovation required by the National Curriculum, established by the Ministry of Education of Ecuador. This tool offers advantages such as dynamism, friendliness and free access; It improves the recognition of geographical points, spatial orientation, the identification of longitude and latitude, among others. Theoretical methods such as inductive-deductive, analytical-synthetic, systemic-structural-functional approach and modeling were used. Among the empirical methods, the pedagogical test of the students and the interview of teachers were used. Within the statistical-mathematical ones, the arithmetic mean, the mode, the median and the standard deviation were used. A sample of 35 was selected from a population of 100 students. The didactic strategy was carried out following the ASSURE model. It was validated by consultation with specialists and 100% highlighted that it was valid. The didactic strategy can benefit Geography teachers, as it provides alternatives for students to learn to orient themselves, to recognize cardinal points, to distinguish geographical features, among other crucial skills for geographical location in the eighth year of Basic General Education.
