Abstract

This scientific article, entitled "Analysis of the Reduction of the Age of Imputability in Ecuador: Case Study at the CAI Ambato Center for Adolescents," examines the effects of the reduction of the age of imputability in Ecuador, with a focus on a case study at the CAI Ambato Center for Adolescents. According to the findings, the reduction of the age of criminal responsibility in 2019 has had a substantial influence on the juvenile rehabilitation center. Internal rules, procedures, and interactions between staff and juvenile offenders have undergone significant adjustments. Lack of adequate resources are some of the most pressing issues, which has led to operational and strategic changes. Administrative staff emphasize the need for additional resources and specialized training to cope with the new dynamics. The effectiveness of the Ecuadorian juvenile justice system in preventing recidivism and rehabilitating adolescent offenders is a critical topic of discussion, highlighting areas for improvement. This study provides valuable lessons and emphasizes the importance of reforming Ecuador's juvenile correctional system. Adapting policies, expanding resources, and investing in training are critical to address the challenges identified and ensure a more effective and equitable juvenile justice system in the country, focused on the well-being of juvenile offenders.
